Catch up of week 1

Hi guys,

My name is Rob, and this blog is going to track my progess as I attempt to improving my health level through the Dukan Diet (as well as improved exercise).

ABOUT ME:

I'm a 21 year old Law/Commerce student from the east coast of Australia. I've never really been a physical person, and approximately a year ago I had a Diabetes scare and reached my highest weight of 111kg. At this point, it finally struck me that enough was enough and I had to try and change my approach to diet and exercise.

Last summer, I attempted a watered down version of the dukan diet, and managed to lose about 8 kilos, most of which stayed off until winter set in. I've also since developed some rudimentary exercise habits, which I'll explain in another post.

Recently however, my mother was ill for about 2 months with a succession of (mostly harmless) illnesses which prevented her from exercising. She decided 2 weeks ago that she was going to go on her first ever diet to try and remove some of the additional weight she had gained, and I offered to join her on the Dukan process.

WEIGHT:
I started the diet a week ago, and here are the weights as they stand:
Day 1 - Roughly 105.5 (forgot to weigh in)
Day 2 - 104.5
Day 3 - 103.8
Day 4 - 103.2
Day 5 - 101.4
Day 6 - 101.2
Day 7 - 102.2
Day 8 - 102.2

STARTING WEIGHT: 105.5
LOSS TODAY: 0
TOTAL LOSS SO FAR: 3.3kg
WEIGHT REMAINING: 12.2kg

THOUGHTS
So, some of the above numbers may seem a bit funny for anyone familiar with the dukan diet. My diet started off really strong. The first few days I experienced some cravings and was EXCESSIVELY hungry as my body came to terms with it's sudden carb deprivation, and I came to terms with how much food I should actually take with me to uni (the answer is: more than 2 cans of tuna).

As of saturday morning, my weight loss was over 4kg which was phenominal. Sadly, however, fate interceded at this point. My best friend - whom I see only ever six months or so - was back in town for the weekend, and invited me to his parents place for dinner. I readily accepted, but forgot to mention that I was on the diet until I got there.

This meant that on my first Protein/Vegetable (PV) day, although most of my day was according to the diet, my dinner that evening included several taboo foods. Particularly bad was dessert, which was Scones with Ginger Jam and Cookies + Cream Icecream. If there is any dessert I cannot say no to, this was it (what are best friends for, ay?)

This accounts for the rise in weight between days six and eight.

Additionally, I haven't had a chance to exercise in the last two days due to other commitments, and some other naughty food has snuck in here and there under the rhetoric of "It's low in carbs and fat so it must be fine". I recognize now that I need to cut alot of those foods out, because they're not actually aiding the weightloss process.

EDIT: Wow... longer post than I intended. Hopefully the future ones will be shorter.
